Zanu PF Supporters Throng Party HQ, threaten Bhora Musango

...as Mutsvangwa supporters call for re-run in Norton

Following the shambolic and highly disputed Zanu Pf primary elections which were marred by violence, intimidation and allegations of rigging and ballot stuffing, Zanu Pf supporters have taken their disgruntlement to the party’s headquarters in Harare where they are demonstrating threatening “Bhora Musango”.

Bhora Musango meaning kick the ball into the bush refers to the response used by Zanu Pf supporters to counter an election campaign by the former President Robert Mugabe dubbed “Bhora Mugedhi” meaning kick it into the goal nets in the 2008 elections.

The campaign is credited for the late MDC T leader’s victory over Mugabe in the March 2008 presidential elections, which resulted in a one man election race by Mugabe in what was described as one of the country’s bloodiest polls.

Meanwhile in Norton…

Zanu-PF members in Norton have urged the party’s national commissariat to order a rerun of primary elections that saw Langton Mutendereki beating President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s special advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa.

Zanu-PF Central Committee member Bybit Tsomondo accused the police of interfering in the elections while  Zanu-PF Mashonaland West secretary for Science and Technology Nyasha Sibiya accused Constance Shamu of buying cellphones for cell chairpersons and paying them $200 each. Sibiya also sought to disqualify Mutendereki saying that he has only two years in Zanu-PF, so he cannot represent the party in the upcoming elections as a House of Assembly candidate. Said Sibiya:

We also wondered how certain candidates who failed to meet the party’s criteria were allowed to contest. For instance Cde Mutendereki has only two years in the party yet the circular from commissariat was clear that all candidates for House of Assembly should have served the party for five years and above. Mrs Shamu bought cellphones for cell chairpersons and paid them $200 each. She is from Chambara in Chegutu but she was patrolling at polling stations in Norton and the police allowed her access to polling stations as and when she wished. We find that to be irregular. She started to campaign in this constituency eight months ago against party regulations. We are appealing to the President to be wary of some of these characters who are infiltrating our party.
