Soldier in trouble after being caught ‘looking for traditional medicine’ at Mugabe’s blueroof mansion

ZIMBABWE National Army (ZNA) solder has been sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment for illegally entering former president Robert Mugabe’s Blue Roof mansion in Harare’s Borrowdale area.

Gunman Ngonidzashe Kapasura, 26, and accomplice Raymond Chahwanda, 23, were jailed by Harare magistrate Victoria Mashamba on Thursday.

They will however, serve an effective 6 months each behind bars after the rest of their respective sentences were suspended on conditions.

The complainant in the case was Gushungo Holding Security which was represented by security guard Fredson Peter, 25.

Court head that the incident occurred just before midnight on the 6th of January this year.

According to prosecutor, Lancelot Mutsokoti the complainant was on duty and carrying out perimeter checks when he came across Kapasura and Chahwanda.

The two had illegally entered the property which is a protected area. The duo claimed they were caught while only looking for traditional herbs inside the former President’s orchard. They told magistrate Victoria Mashamba that they were only looking for traditional herbs which he used to see while guarding the premises during the tenure of the former President.

“I went inside the Blue Roof searching for herbs and while in the middle of searching, I saw security guards who asked me what I was looking for,” Kapasura pleaded.

“When the security guards apprehended us, we were not holding anything. We just told them that we were looking for traditional herbs.”

Court heard that Kapasura and Chahwanda were found in possession items which had been stolen from the property.

They were apprehended and later handed to the police, leading to their arrest.
