Oliver Mtukudzi Burial in Madziva (Updated)

Oliver Mtukudzi, who passed away last week on 23 January 2019, was buried Sunday in Madziva, his rural home. The government declared him a National Hero but the family decided to bury him at his home instead.

MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa in an animated conversation with Defence minister, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri. Chamisa reportedly arrived at the Oliver Mtukudzi homestead as Muchinguri read a speech on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Chamisa was reportedly denied entry into the Mtukudzi homestead before hundreds of people broke a police and military barrier to let him in, in the process disrupting Muchinguri’s speech as she repeatedly pleaded with the crowd to be quiet. –

Oliver Mtukudzi, also known as “Tuku” (short for Mtukudzi) was a singer-songwriter, actor, writer, film director and entrepreneur. With 66 albums to his name, he was one of Zimbabwe’s top musicians and lead of the band The Black Spirits.
