NAASSZ boss calls for good governance in agricultural show societies

By Lloyd Mwale

Despite the confusion during the build-up to the 110th edition of the 2022 Kadoma Agriculture Show Society, the event was held last week against all odds which saw 20 companies and farmers from around Kadoma taking part.

Officially opening the 2020 Kadoma Agriculture Show Society event which ran under the theme, “Enabling Kadoma Show Society into a business hub through infrastructure rebuilding, promoting transparency and corporate governance”, National chairperson of National Association of Agriculture Show Societies of Zimbabwe, Godfrey Tichaona Mavankeni called on show societies to exercise and uphold good corporate governance in all their endeavours.

“I am happy for your 2022 Kadoma Agriculture Show Society event theme where you are calling for good corporate governance. Yes, good corporate governance is lacking in some shows, we want to see good corporate governance in agricultural shows, agricultural shows must be accountable in all their businesses and I am glad that your theme for 2022 is trying to stress the importance of good corporate governance as shows seek to promote agriculture and its support activities to facilitate agricultural development in the province,”said Mavankeni.

He applauded the exhibitors and farmers who managed to showcase at the Kadoma Agriculture Show Society event against the confusion before the event.

“I would like to applaud all the exhibitors and farmers who have managed to come to this year’s event. It was like someone going to Ukraine amid the on-going raging war,” said the NAASSZ boss.

“Shows seek to promote agriculture activities so it is important for farmers to participate in these agricultural shows as it provides a learning platform and brings together stakeholders in agricultural value chain by bringing together seed houses, chemical, financial houses and suppliers of farming equipment.”

Mavankeni called on those who were trying to disturb the running of this year’s event to swallow their pride and come back to work with others for the development of Kadoma.

“Show yegore rino yabudirira zvisinei nemaspanners aga achikandwa. Vanokanda maspanners vachikanda but I want to think that those spanners which were thrown along the way have been crushed by the Kadoma Agriculture Show Society machine and, to those who were throwing spanners, swallow your pride and come to work with others for the development of Kadoma,” he said.
