Harare magistrate Trynos Utahwashe has granted MDC-Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere Z$10 000 bail.
Mahere spent the weekend in jail awaiting the court’s determination on her quest for freedom.
She was arrested last week after presenting herself at Harare Central Police Station having heard that the police sought to interview her.
This was after she tweeted that a policeman had struck and killed a baby with a baton stick while on his mother’s back.
She was hauled to court on Tuesday for publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the State.
During her bail hearing, her lead counsel David Drury submitted that the law the State relied on was expunged by a full Constitutional Court bench.
MDC-A deputy chairperson Job Sikhala and journalist Hopewell Chin’ono were denied bail and are still in custody over the same charge.
