Man rapes desperate job-seeker

A 36-year-old Chitungwiza man was on Monday arrested for allegedly raping a woman whom he had promised a job.

Wellington Mudonhi, of Zengeza, promised the 20-year-old woman from Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe he would get her a job.

He asked her to meet him at Mbare Musika.

The victim was promised a job as a storekeeper, at a shop, in Kuwadzana.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckson Chakanza, confirmed the arrest .

“Police are investigating a case involving a 20-year-old woman, who travelled from Murehwa to meet the accused person, who invited her to his house in Zengeza, and raped her once,” said Insp Chakanza.

“The complainant was promised a job to work as a storekeeper by the accused person.

“On the 14th of May, 2022, the complainant left home and proceeded to Harare for the promised job.

“The accused person met the complainant at Mbare Musika at around 1545hrs.

“He then took her to Zengeza, where he stays, promising to take the complainant to Kuwadzana the following day, to meet the owner of the store where she was going to work.”

Insp Chakanza added:
“At around 2300hours, the accused left the complainant in his room saying he was going to sleep in another room.

“In a short space of time, the accused person came back into the room and told the complainant that he wanted to have sex with her, to which she refused.

“The accused person then pulled the complainant from the bed to the floor and raped her once, without protection.”

The victim informed her sister the following day, leading to Mudonhi’s arrest.
