A private symposium for Africans in the diaspora and people of African descent is being held in London this Saturday the 11th of May, 2019. The event is the brainchild of Canada-based start-up investor, entrepreneur and business mentor, Rodrigue Fouafou.
The purpose of the symposium is to provide a networking platform for like-minded entrepreneurial Africans and will act as a catalyst for diaspora-driven initiatives and investments to boost economic growth in Africa. A panel discussion will be held on the opportunities for Africans in the Diaspora.
This event follows the developing trend of Africans in the diaspora seeking to leverage investment opportunities in Africa. According to the World Bank, there are over 30 million Africans living outside of their home countries, with the diaspora contributing over $30 billion a year in remittances in sub-Saharan Africa. Furthermore, the diaspora saves an estimated US$ 53 billion annually.
This all translates into a big opportunity not only for Africans in the diaspora to channel these funds into Africa, but also for businesses within Africa to tap into these potential investment pools through providing bankable projects. It is very encouraging to see such events take place as Africans take the lead role in uplifting and investing in themselves.
