“Independent” Masarira Lands Top Post In Khupe’s Faction

Prominent human rights activist and very loud pro-democracy campaigner, Linda Masarira has landed a top post within the MDC T faction led by Thokozani Khupe.

Masarira in September last year officially announced plans to seek political office in 2018 as an Independent candidate for Harare Central, but has now opted for safety in numbers and support of a political party.

Masarira was elected as the party’s spokesperson at a congress held at Stanley Square in Bulawayo Saturday.

asarira last week took to Twitter criticising MDC Alliance President who is leading the other MDC T faction, Nelson Chamisa over his decision to expel Thokozani Khupe from parliament.

“This was the worst decision made by the Chamisa faction,” said Masarira.

“At this juncture I am forced to follow the voice of reason to support constitutionalism and to protect the interests of a woman politician. Zimbabwe Women In Politics condemns this move and will stand in solidarity with Dr Thokozani Khupe,” she posted on her Twitter account.

Masarira has in the past vehemently denied joining any political party insisting that joining a political party diverts a leader from becoming a servant leader and is tantamount to serving two masters.

“I am therefore announcing my independent candidacy not because I have no sense of belonging; No, but because I believe in servant leadership and as the saying goes, ‘you cannot serve two masters at the same time’. Therefore, I choose to serve people and represent their interests,” Masarira was quoted saying.
