Harare- Opposition leader and ZAPU president Dumiso Dabengwa this week traveled to India to receive specialist treatment after his health deteriorated in the past months, his foundation said Wednesday.
“As already known, Dr Dabengwa has been unwell since November 2018. He has sought treatment in South Africa from December till early this year. Doctors have recommended that he travels to India for specialist treatment,” Mthulisi Hanana, the director of the Dumiso Dabengwa foundation said in a statement.
“We urge all of us to remember him in our prayers as he gets medical treatment far from home,” Hanana added without disclosing Dabengwa’s ailment.
He said Dabengwa left for Indida with his wife Zodwa on Monday.A picture of Dabengwa in a wheel-chair went viral on social media in the past days with people speculating his health situation.”
Dr Dabengwa used the wheel-chair as he was complaining of fatigue owing to his condition and exacerbated by the activities of the Easter holidays,” the foundation said.
Hanana said Dabengwa since November reduced his public appearances due to his ill health. But he said the former ZIPRA intelligence supremo attended Professor Phinias Makhurane, the launch of his foundation, Dorothy Masuka’s memorial service and Umkhonto WeSizwe conference.
Dabengwa last year called for a transitional authority in the country to resolve the economic and political crisis following disputed elections last year.
