Bring back 100% local content, says artist

Popular Afro-soul musician Bryan K, real name Bryan Kadengu, who is popular for the hit song “Heavy Machine” has called on the country’s authorities to ban foreign music and bring back 100 percent local content.

Kadengu’s motivation was motivated by the perceived lack of appreciation for local artists. In an interview with NewsDay, Kadengu said.

“We need to stop feeding our people foreign music and get back to 100% local because we have got the talent here in Zimbabwe. We need to be proud of our own and lift up our own before we promote artists from outside Zimbabwe.”

His suggestion brings unpleasant memories of the dark days at the turn of the century when former Information Minister Professor Jonathan forced state-owned media to play local content 75 percent of the time.

Although the period is credited with producing the urban grooves, many were not happy with the quality of the content played on the airwaves.
