16 SDA choirs hold Sabbath of Song in Harare

By Loice Gore

The Seventh Day Adventist Church Zimbabwe East Union Conference (ZEUC) has urged its congregants to be faithful stewards, first at home and then at church and at school.

ZEUC held a Sabbath of song at the Showgrounds East End Hall this past Saturday. The festival’s emphasis on good stewardship and education was relayed in songs penned by music composers from the church.

Southern Indian Ocean Division Stewardship Director Dr Liywali Mundia said: “The union’s intention on hosting this event was to draw many people since many people are drawn  to church by music.”

The congregants were urged to be good stewards and educators both from home and at school.

Speaking at the same occasion, the Zimbabwe East Conference Education director Dr Muzira sasid: “True education is being well represented in the church .

“We are up holding the three fundamentals of education; which are the head, heart and hand. If true education does not begin at home, then our children are in danger of getting educated by street-smart gangs.

“We should teach our children at home first before we send them to those artificial centres of education called schools,” he said.

He reiterated the removal of dichotomy in Zimbabwe’s education system.

Pastor Makiwa, the ZEUC Stewardship Director, said the Union will hold more festivals like these after they assess how profitable it was.

“We will hold another music day of this nature if we see that our strategy and vision was profitable. The goal is to spread stewardship messages not only through preaching but also through music. Cds and Dvds should be given out at our various seminars and crusades if the choirs do as they were tasked to produce music albums,” he said.

The ZEUC stewardship strategy is to spread the message to uphold the 6Ts of stewardship namely: Time, Talent, Treasure, Terrain, Temple and Truth.

The participating choirs were encouraged to produce albums and HRC, one of the 16 choirs that took part, will be releasing their 5th 9-track  album soon.

“As we practice and sing the words, it affords us an opportunity to introspect .We will be releasing our 5th album in July and all the nine songs are stewardship songs,” said Mr AT Mberi, the HRC choir chairman.

“The lyrics are indeed ministering to us.The recording process has unified our members and taught us to endure and most importantly to be good stewards of time since the recording process was a time bond,” he said.

Pastor Makiwa went in to urge the choristers to have a stewardship ambassador in each choir or music group.

“You cannot sing with unfaithful stewards. Make sure each chorister is faithful in tithes and offerings before becoming a confirmed member of the choir. The stewardship ambassador should promote the message of stewardship everywhere you go to sing,” he said.

Sixteen choirs from the North and East Zimbabwe Conferences and one from South Korea  participated.
